Roads to Refuge
All Roads Lead Home
Status: Active & Expanding
Roads to Refuge is Wild Heart Haven’s transport and transition program, designed to safely move dogs from high-risk situations into foster homes, veterinary care, and long-term sanctuary support.
Before a dog can heal, it has to get out.
Roads to Refuge exists to make that first, critical step possible.
This program focuses on the logistics most rescues struggle with, transportation, coordination, timing, and safety, ensuring dogs don’t fall through the cracks simply because there was no way to get them to safe
What Roads to Refuge Is
Roads to Refuge supports rescue operations by providing:
Safe transport for dogs moving from shelters, owners in crisis, or high-risk environments
Coordination between shelters, fosters, and veterinary partners
Transition support as dogs move into foster care or rehabilitation
Emergency relocation assistance when time or distance is a barrier
This program is the connective tissue between rescue intent and rescue reality.
What the Program Does
As part of Roads to Refuge, Wild Heart Haven partners with CARS, a trusted vehicle donation program that allows supporters to donate cars they no longer need.
Donated vehicles are responsibly sold or recycled, and the proceeds are directed back into our mission, helping fund transport, veterinary intake, and the infrastructure required to move dogs safely from risk to refuge.
This option allows supporters to:
Support rescue without writing a check
Repurpose unused vehicles for meaningful impact
Contribute in a way that directly strengthens our transport capacity
While not every donated vehicle becomes a rescue transport, every vehicle helps move the mission forward.
Turn an Unused Vehicle Into Rescue Miles
Vehicle donation proceeds are allocated to mission-critical programs based on current operational needs, including Roads to Refuge and related rescue infrastructure.
